I realized last week that this Friday will be one year that my handsome little boy has been in our lives. One whole year. I cannot believe it! Sure, there are days that he makes me want to pull my hair out and question my sanity, but is there a Mom out there who doesn't do that?! :) Most of the time, the days just seem so normal to me, like he has always been here (even on those hair pulling out days!) - then there are sometimes that I am reminded that he has not - monthly visits with caseworkers, licensing home visits, court dates, and papers to fill out. But, regardless of the latter, he is here....and has been for almost a whole year!
One year ago, I was on the phone talking and texting with my high school best friend about the little boy who just *might* make it to our home. What an emotional couple of days it was wondering what was going to happen! I had no idea that one year later, I would look that little boy in the eyes he would melt my heart. Lots of things can change in one year!
The baby who came to us with (too)long, wispy hair and couldn't say but a few words just told me "Good night, Mommy - I wuv you" an hour ago.
The little boy who once threw tantrums (thank goodness, not often) and didn't know how to express himself just calmed himself down earlier tonight when I told him he needed to stop with the fit that I saw brewing.
The handsome little boy who called every woman he saw "mom" does not do that anymore and proudly tells people that I am HIS Mommy. He recognizes other women as who they are, and knows that I am the one who will be a constant in his life.
The wee one who didn't have a sister a year ago played with HIS Sissy in the backyard tonight.
The little man who they said wasn't so sure about men, hugged and kissed HIS Daddy last night, big time, because he was so excited about the new bike that Bill brought him home. (And he has never shown anything but love toward Bill, never scared or intimidated....I think he always knew his daddy was there for him from the moment he saw him!)
The little baby who let me rock him to sleep the first night he came here was just laid down in his racecar bed for the night, after rocking with Mommy. He stopped this for several months, and only occasionally wanted to rock, but for the last week or so he has asked to rock nearly every night. I think he knows how special it is to me and what a milestone this week is. :)
The little boy who didn't understand where his Sissy was going when she would leave to go to her mom's house, just spent a few hours with his Sissy there last weekend, and had a blast. That was very special to me.
Lots of growing for this little boy. Lots of positive changes for him. People often remark how lucky he is, but I think we are the lucky ones. He has brought so much joy into our lives in almost one whole year! We are very blessed!

Throw Back Thursday - Blog Style!!
Here is a blog post of mine from 4 YEARS ago! All I can say is: Man, I'm crazy. Like, legit, crazy. Read, and you'll see for yourself! :)
Time for another random picture! I don't have a soul right now to give me two random numbers! I know I should just pick out 2 numbers and blog the picture, but that is so much pressure. I don't like that! I can't even make decisions about what to cook for supper, which kind of crackers to buy, or even if I should buy the 60 load Downy April Fresh because it's $1 cheaper than my favorite Gain! Ok, ok, eventually I do make those decisions (we do have to eat and smell good!) but it comes with so much thought! WHY do I spend so much time contemplating such mundane things? I don't know! Maybe because I don't have kids yet to occupy my mind. Maybe I'm just a freakazoid.
Anyway, picking 2 random numbers should require no thought at all. The point is to be random right?! Ok, here goes. 15 and 35. Ohhhh, that was intense! So, without further ado, here is folder 15, picture 35: never mind. Can't do that. That random picture is of a cousin and former boyfriend. Said cousin is now happily married to different boyfriend. I don't think that would be a wise choice on my part! This is why I don't like making decisions!! I'm heading over to facebook to enlist the help from a friend.
Phew, that weight has been lifted from my shoulders now! Thanks to Shannon Knapp, I will now present you with folder 21, picture 69. This picture is of my Maggie....spoiled, rotten Maggie. Grace is really into sewing and making pillows, dresses, and now, dog accessories! We had been playing with her Fashion Runway stuff she got for Christmas and some fabric we had bought and Grace decided that Maggie needed a headpiece (?). I'm not sure what she called it, so we'll go with headpiece! Anyway, she cut it out, attached some fabric to go under Maggie's chin, and even cut holes for her ears. As you can see here, Maggie is thrilled about her new piece! Look how blingin' she is with that sequence! I know, I'm a riot. Settle down.
I'm so glad that Grace has a creative side and is putting it to good use. You know, making sure our dogs are always in fashion! Now, won't you join me and find a random picture of your own? Post it to your blog, facebook, email, or myspace and let me know! I'd love to see yours.....and I hope you don't have as hard of a time picking one as I did! Thank goodness for friends with the ability to make quick decisions!!
One more thing, and this is totally not random: Grace making Maggie a princess (or a bride?) a couple of years ago!

Meeting Birth Mom
So, if you read my last facebook post, you saw that I was
deactivating my account. Much like my
problem with food, I have (had) an addiction with facebook, and it was a major
waste of my time. (Sad, isn’t it?!) I will be back one day, after lent is over….though
I’m not Catholic, I gave it up with my friend Sara…..just like I did littering
in high school with her!
I have been such a failure at blogging and hope that my facebook
hiatus helps that. Also, I don’t exactly
know how much I’m allowed to share about Lucas’s story just yet, so I’ve been a
little apprehensive about sharing publicly. (Not that I would give away major deets
anyway, but I don’t want to test it!)
When I left the last post, I said I’d tell the story about
meeting his birth mom. Since I’ve got a
lot of ground to cover since my last post (roughly 6 months worth!), I’ll just
start there and work my way on.
I arrived at the courthouse for the hearing that day for the
judge to either terminate her rights or for her to sign her parental rights
over. I was just a ball of nerves. I called my friend Sara who suggested I be
prepared for her to either like me, or be really mad at me. I was sure I was ready for both, but I really
knew I wasn’t. I would just die if she
yelled and cussed me and thought I was trying to take her baby.
Due to my aforementioned facebook addiction I had already
known what his mom looked like, or at least looked like when he was very young
anyway. As I began walking up the
stairs, I glanced ahead and there she stood at the top. She had no idea who I was so I glided on past
and went through security and found a seat inside. The caseworker wasn’t there yet and after a
few minutes she came inside and sat down RIGHT BESIDE ME! That was fate telling me to introduce myself
and let her know her son was ok!
After several minutes of watching her looking at pictures of
her boys on her phone I finally said, “Excuse me, are you X’s mom?” She looked at me with tears in her eyes and
said yes and I told her who I was and that he was living with me and was doing
great and was so smart. I gave her a
pack of pictures I brought for her and she was so happy to see them and just
kept talking about how happy he looked.
The room started to fill up and the caseworker showed
up. We talked to her for a minute and
went to a corner to talk a little more privately. I assured her that he would know he was
adopted, and she said that that had always been her main worry – that he was so
young, he wouldn’t remember if no one told him.
After talking a while, she warmed up to me so much. Some people are just lost and/or broken and
need someone to listen. She pulled the
caseworker over and told her that she wanted to sign her rights over
specifically to us. I almost screamed
when she said that, but I was so dumbfounded that I didn’t know what to
say. I hugged her and we talked a while
more. We discussed visits when her life
was in order and when we saw the judge, he commended her on making one of the
best decisions she’s ever made.
We had to go back a couple of weeks later for the judge to
sign and I was so nervous that in those weeks she would change her mind or be
influenced somehow. Thank goodness she
wasn’t and she made the best decision she could for her little boy! A few months later, dad’s rights were gone
too, then there was no way his bio parents could come back and try to gain
custody again.
Meeting his mom was nothing like I had imagined. I pictured a woman who would hate the ground
I walked on, but instead she thanked me for taking such good care of her baby….and
I thanked her for giving her baby to me when she could have made things much,
much harder. For that I will always be
grateful.

Wednesday Words
Tonight is the first night in a while that I have gotten Lucas to bed before 10, so how about a little blog update?
If you follow me on facebook, you know a lot of this already - but I have to remind myself that there are still people who don't fb (hi, Aunt Ruth)!
Things are going great with Lucas. He has been with us for 4 months now, but it seems so much longer. He just fits in so well! We are working on potty training, and it is hit and miss. I'm not going to stress too much about it (or try not to anyway)!
When he first came, he was having a rough time getting his frustrations out....when he would be told not to do something, he would get so emotional and kept hitting himself in the head. It didn't happen often, but when it did, that was his way to get his frustration out. I'm happy to say that doesn't happen anymore! He still gets emotional, but I believe he handles it just like any 2 year old does! :)
He was seeing a speech therapist once a week, until last week. She closed his case, saying that he has developed his speech so well over the last few months that she is confident he will continue to improve himself. He was tested at over a 30% delay before coming to live with us and is now at an 18% since coming home! Yay!!! We are still working on putting sentences together, but I can tell he gets a little better day by day.
Grace is turning 12 next week! I can't believe how much she has grown over the last few months! Aside from growing taller over the summer, she has also started to blossom into a young lady. I still find her playing with dolls and running around acting silly, but she has started to pay a little more attention to her hair and wants to wear a little makeup. Ahhh, I remember this age. It scares me and thrills me. She is going to change and grow, and I will be there every step of the way. I never felt that I really had anyone to help me through all the craziness of tween/teen life and I can't wait to be a part of it for her.
She is going to be in our hometown pageant soon and I'm excited for her. She has always wanted to do something like that, but we are just not "pageant people". I figured a small one will be fun for her. This is something we know nothing about, but she just wants to have fun and be in the spotlight! Of course she would like to win, but we are fully prepared for anything to happen. We have been told to bring our thick skin, as apparently some of these pageant contestants and parents can be pretty cut throat, but I'm not worried. One thing I love about her, she is pretty good about letting things people have said roll off her back. She is a confident, one of a kind girl, and that will show....she is definitely not going to be your typical pageant girl! I just can't wait to watch her.
Here is our beautiful 6th grader!!

Since this has been pretty lengthy so far, I will save my thoughts on meeting Lucas' birthmom for the next post. Let's just say that it has not went how I had anticipated!

Goodbye, Tommy Girl
If you are not a dog (or other animal lover) you will not "get" this post.
Back in the archives, I found a post I did on Tommy Girl....if you want, you can read it right here. I can't believe that I wrote that post over 2 1/2 years ago.
Today was the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life....and I've done some not so easy things.
Since the last post about her, Tommy had a couple more surgeries for tumors that were coming up. She always did exceptionally well afterwards too. She was such a strong girl, and was not going to let a little surgery get her down. I love how dogs are like that. If I had been cut open and fixed, I would have laid around for weeks whining. Had it not been for the stitches and shaved arm, you almost wouldn't have known she had surgery!
Shortly after her last operation, we noticed another small knot on her belly. It was slow growing, but I knew something would have to be done. Bill and I talked about it and decided that we wouldn't put her through another surgery. She was, after all, 14 years old and had been through quite a lot in the last couple of years. As the months went by, her little knot started to grow. I tried to ignore it as much as I could, because ultimately, I knew what would happen.
About a month and a half ago, her skin started to open a tiny bit. We spoke to her vet ( Dr. John Spence, who is awesome!) and he agreed with us to not put her through another surgery. Since her skin was starting to open, he put her on an antibiotic to try to keep infection down. He warned that we probably wouldn't have much time left, probably a week to 10 days and suggested that when we noticed her not eating (that's the point that they're pretty bad) to call to have her put to sleep. Also, he was leaving in 2 weeks for vacation and would be gone for 2 weeks. I knew that if we were going to do it, I wanted him to do it. This is when my heart really started breaking - now we had a timeline.
Damn it if 10 days don't go by and she is acting completely fine. The day or so before he was to be closed for vacation I called to see if we could just get some more antibiotic while he was gone. I just couldn't do it while she was still eating, running, and acting like she was in generally good health! I checked her belly often and her sore was starting to open more (she licked it often), but my girl pushed on. Her dr came back from vacation and I was so relieved that when it was time, he could be there for her.
Monday morning, I went into Lucas' room to put away some clothes. She followed me like she does everywhere and I noticed her stumbling. I hollered her name (I don't know why, she's not deaf!) and dropped down beside her. She laid on the floor beside me, I petted her and talked to her; almost waiting for her to tell me exactly what was wrong (she didn't!). I had seen her act this way once before when she ate a portabella mushroom and the vet had us give her some benadryl. That worked wonders that time, so I rushed and got some this time. I also gave her a pain pill left over from surgery, just in case it was from pain from her sore. I'm not sure which one, but something worked and she fared fine, but I was still scared for her. It was at that time that I felt that was my sign that it was time. I called Bill and we knew what we had to do.
I couldn't make myself call to schedule until later that afternoon. I didn't want to call when she was around (er, what?)......I know, I know. :) We scheduled for today and it was all I could think about. She got extra treats and attention. We slept together on the couch. I asked her for a sign to tell me that she was ok...... I got nothin'! Still, I knew.
We woke up Wed. and Grace got to say her goodbyes. We took Grace to school then had McD's sausage biscuits and hash browns for breakfast. She sat with me in the recliner and watched tv until it was time to go. I talked to her like she knew exactly what I was saying. I told her that when she got to the rainbow bridge, she could go find Lucy (Amy's dog) and Charlie (cousin Jessica's dog that recently passed) and go play. I assured her that when it was my time I would find her. Yes, I believe she knew what I was saying.
I cried off and on in the car, where she rode peacefully in the passenger seat beside me. The Sesser Animal Hospital has an awesome staff. As soon as I got there, they took us to a room so I wasn't bawl baggin' it in the waiting room. I sat in the floor with her and her blanket on my lap while Lucas played the kindle. The nurse talked to me about cremation and told us dr would be in soon. Dr John came in and gave me assurance that I was doing the right thing. He praised her for being such a good girl all the time. He also said that her episode Mon could have been a mini stroke (she did have a history of congestive heart failure). So, that was my sign.
When it was time, I laid her blanket on the table. I couldn't have her laying on that cold metal slab! :) The nurse hugged her belly to keep her still so dr could get a vein and I was right at her head so we could see each other. After a little of the injection went in her head got a little heavy. I just told her over and over that I loved her and she was a good girl. When he was almost done, she just went limp and the nurse layed her down. It was awful. I just wanted to see her nudge my hand for a scratch one more time, but she was gone. *One thing I didn't know is that a dog's eyes stay open after this....that was a little unsettling. I kept petting her and took her collar and got her blanket. It killed me to leave her laying there, but Dr. John just gives off a peaceful aura and I am forever thankful to him for that. He stayed in the room with her, I thanked him for everything he did for her, and we left.
I have dreaded this day for a long time, and it was every bit as painful as I had imagined. But, she does not hurt anymore. She did not pass painfully. 11 hours later, I miss her like crazy. Even with other dogs at home, I can feel her presence gone. She was my first baby when I couldn't have babies. I know that she hung around until she knew I had what I needed in life. She waited for Lucas. She posed for pictures with him. He will not remember her, but there is proof that she loved him.
My cousin Jessica sent this to me today and I love it:
Yesterday I made a choice, You were in such pain, It was in your voice.
To keep you here or let you go, The guilt I felt you’ll never know.
Even though my choice was right, a part of me I had to fight, not to let you slip into that final goodnight.
With love for you, my decision made, I feel the loss will never fade.
But knowing that your pain is gone, And that your soul has now moved on, I bless each day I spent with you, and live with what I had to do.
Yesterday you went to sleep, but in my heart I’ll always keep, my precious memory of love so deep.

Short and Sweet!
I feel guilty that I have been sending people to my blog to read the story of how blessed we have become.....and I haven't written anything lately! Believe it or not, I've been a little busy! ;) This post will be short and sweet, but I have plans for a personal blog session this weekend!
We have finished our dcfs pride training (foster training) so that L could come live with us full time, so now he does. Everyone still asks how the transition is going, and my answer is still that there really was no transition. Easy, peasy, lemon squeezy! We have been so lucky!
We will go to court soon for one of many court dates to get to adoption. We are looking at a long haul, but at least he's here! I was very disappointed when our pride trainers suggested that it could take up to 2 years. What the what?! But, at least he's here.
I still can't thank my friend enough for what she did for us. She is such a blessing and I am forever thankful for her and her family.
His caseworker has encouraged us to call L by his given name (which I still did occasionally, as it will be his middle name). She doesn't want birth mom to be really upset about a name change and for that to be a hiccup. I can totally understand that - doesn't matter to me what we call him for now.....because at least he's here!
Grace has been the best big sister I could imagine! He loves his "shishy" so much. She is enjoying her summer break, and keeping busy. We're signing up for volleyball camp in July, I can't wait for that for her!
I hope you are all enjoying this hot, humid summer!

My First Mom's Day!
For many years I have longed to celebrate mother’s day. Every year, my heart ached for what I knew
had to be the best feeling in the world.
Finally, my dream has come true, and it IS the best feeling in the
world!!
My first Mother’s Day was much as I had expected….just like
any other day, except I got a present.
The laundry was still here and there were still messes to clean up, but
you know what? I couldn’t have been
happier about it! When the laundry
includes itty bitty socks and cute little t-shirts and the messes are sippy
cups and strewn about toys, that’s just fine with me!
We had breakfast at my sister’s house and came home for a
bit before Grace had to go back to her mother’s house. Grace bought me 2 new Willow Tree Angels,
which were perfect. After Grace left, we
headed to the lake with some fishing poles (not for me though, I suck at
fishing). It was a beautiful day to just
be outside and we enjoyed it.
Lucas was full of kisses and made my heart swell every time
he looked at me. We finally settled in
for the night after bath time on the couch.
He fell asleep while I held himas we watched tv. Even though he sweats like crazy when he
sleeps and my arm was soaked I couldn’t get up and go lay him in his bed. I just wanted to keep looking at him!
As ashamed as I am to say it, it wasn’t until that moment
that I thought of his birth mom. She may
not have custody of him, but she had to be thinking of him. Since he is in foster care, she did not
decide to place him for adoption and did not choose us; but I hope that she
knew that we were thinking of her and that she had some comfort that he was in
a safe place.
We made a handprint for her on Monday and will send it to
their next visit. I hope that she will
accept it and knows that it is coming from a good place in my heart. I worry about that. Though we hope to adopt him and ultimately
hope he doesn’t return “home”, I don’t want her to feel like I think I’m better
than her. I hope that my gestures (like
sending a letter, picture, or his artwork) won’t lead her in that
direction. I will still send them unless
she says that she wishes otherwise. On Sunday though, I was sure thankful that
she gave birth to the precious little boy I was blessed to be holding in my
arms!

Some things I've learned in 13 days....
13 DAYS?!?! Yes, Lucas has been in our lives for almost 2 weeks already! In this very short amount of time, I've learned a few things....
I've learned that although I've never been a morning person (at ALL), that I am more than willing to wake at 5:45 every morning to a sweet little voice calling, "Mom....Mom!"
I've learned that you have to choose your battles. Though I've always known this, I've learned that you really have to choose your battles with a 2 year old. I'd rather he wear his boots to bed than see those big crocodile tears because he doesn't want to take them off.
I've learned that while my bank account may not like it too much, I am so glad that I am not working right now. I could not imagine all of this happening and having to work during it.
I've learned that it is possible to function on 4-5 hours of sleep.
I've learned that it feels really nice to hear "Congratulations" from people, instead of "I'm so sorry".
I've learned that even though I've never been a nap person, it's nice to sneak one in with my new little love every once in a while and not feel guilty about it!
I've learned that the people you think would be there to rejoice in this wonderful situation may not be. I'm very thankful for those that are, some who I wouldn't have expected!
I've learned that it makes me nervous to hear coughs and sniffles and sneezes. It was different with Grace, Chace, and Miles because ultimately they all had their own moms who made the calls and I just did what they said to do. I know it will grow on me, and thankfully I have my sister who has been through it and my Aunt Patty who, in my opinion, knows everything there is to know about children!
I've learned that I am seeing life from a whole different perspective and I love it!

We are blessed!
If you're just coming in, please read Part 1 here, Part 2 here, and Part 3 here !!
We have been blessed beyond measure with family and friends who
are accepting and helpful. I cannot
imagine traveling this journey by ourselves or with anyone who didn’t “approve”
of our decisions. I love running into
people who have read our blog and have them tell me how touched they were. When they tell me it made them cry, I’m
usually glad! Not because I want them to
cry, but I am glad that people are able to feel some of the emotion that we
have went through. I want people to see
how wonderful, terrifying, and absolutely beautiful this journey has been. It’s far from over, so settle in for the
ride!
Everyone has shown Lucas so much love that it makes my heart
swell. It seems as he has always been a
part of our family. He is treated the
same as all of the other kids and he fits right in! Amy and I strolled the boys around the park
the other night and were stopped by several people who wanted to meet Lucas and
give me congratulations. I loved every
minute of it, because I know these people are genuinely happy for us!
Our visits are going well, I can’t wait for our classes to
be done so he can stay with us 24/7. They
will only last one month, I’m hoping it goes by fast! As far as I am concerned, there seem to be no adjustment "issues" and that suits me just fine!
My friend who is such a blessing is doing
great. I think her worries have subsided
as she now knows this is exactly how it was supposed to work out. I love her so much for this gift that she
held onto for us!
Grace had surgery Friday to have her adenoids taken
out. Her surgery went great and after
resting yesterday she is feeling pretty good today. We left Lucas with Aunt Patty (who is on our
list of pre-approved babysitters) while we took Grace for her surgery. Aunt Patty said he was good when we left, except
he wanted to know where his Grace was!
He loves her so much!
Lucas will pretty much call most women “mom” and most men “dad”. I think he knows that we are mom and dad….we
take care of him and love on him more than anyone, but he doesn’t know what to
call everyone else, since he’s never been around anyone for an extended length
of time. Maybe? I am in the process of gathering pictures for
a small photo album so we can read it like a book. It will have pictures of
everyone in our family and people we will see on a regular basis. I’m hoping that doing this he will associate names
with faces over time and will give me the pleasure of being the only “mom”!
He is so funny when he wants to get my attention even when I
am sitting right with him. For instance,
we were sitting in his bedroom floor, he was playing and I was going through
some clothes from my cousin. “momomomomMOM!!” ….”what baby?” ….”here”
as he hands me a mickey mouse toy.
I love to hear him say mom. I
always imagined how it would sound, but I never in my wildest dreams thought it
would sound this sweet. I just can’t
help but smile and look around to see if anyone else heard it. The same way with Bill….I love to hear him
ask for “dad’n” I’m not sure what all
that is about, but most of the time, it’s how he says it. It is music to my ears.
So, do you have any questions about our journey? Anything you’d like to hear about or want to
be nosey about? Joking, joking! Ask away, or give me some suggestions on what
to write next. With the exception of any
confidential information about Lucas, I am an open book! Sometimes the pages may be a little wrinkled
or not read exactly how I want them to, but this is my book and I am glad you
are reading it!

Part 3! Not as exciting, but it's what's up!
Lucas’ caseworker showed up for our appointment with the
transporter (the lady who will take him to visits with his bio parents once a
week). He knows these 2 ladies well and
ran to give them hugs when he saw them….but that was it. He went back to playing and didn’t have much
to do with them, which they said was not normal for him. So, that must mean he feels pretty
comfortable here, right?!
I told her that he spent the night and let her know how
smooth everything had been. She was so
excited and told me this is just what he needs…..but I already knew that! She felt that he just needed a chance to be
parented consistently and I’m so ready!
We will go to court in July and will have his status changed from “return
home” and get him on the final stretch to his forever home. I can’t wait!
We confirmed the plan that my friend is still his legal
guardian and Lucas can spend the night here up to 3 days at a time, then her
home, then 3 days here again. I hope
that this routine does not become too confusing, but it’s only for a month so
maybe it won’t be that bad. As much as I’m
ready for him to have a routine and stability, I know he is much more ready!
When they left, he wouldn’t even give them a hug….just ran
to my lap! They were both so nice and
care so much for Lucas. I know it’s
their job, but I can tell that it’s more than that to them. I’m so thankful for them because I’ve heard
there are some grumpy caseworkers out there!
Haha
We spent the rest of the day hanging out and playing. He napped and when we picked Grace up from
school he had the biggest smile and hug for her. I think he’s just as smitten by her as she is
by him! Saturday was also spent hanging
out and getting to know each other. I
never could have imagined that a situation like this would be so perfect!
Bill worked for so many days in a row that he didn’t really
get to spend any time with us until Saturday evening. We went out to eat and Lucas was such a good
baby! He behaved so well (and no, I’m
not delusional….I know there will be plenty of times that he won’t!) and we
stopped by Uncle Raymond and Aunt Erin’s and he got a little gift that makes
lots of grumpy noises and has a club to hit stuff with. Thanks guys.
Haha
I learned a valuable lesson that night also. Letting a toddler stay up past bed time will
not make them sleep in in the morning…..it will only make them crabby! Haha He loves playing a little “game” at bed
time. We start to rock, then he wants to
get down. He gets in his bed and rolls
around, giggling, pretending to snore, covering and uncovering. I walk out of the room and tell him to lay
down. I’ll stand in the kitchen and will
hear him pitter patter to the doorway. I’ll
holler for him to go lay down and he pitter patters back to his bed giggling. This goes on a few times then I go back in
and ask if he’s ready for me to hold him.
At this point, he reaches those little bitty arms up snuggles in and
falls asleep in about 10 seconds.
I can also tell you another thing I’ve learned. Those little pitter patters are making more
than hot laps across the carpet. My
heart already has permanent pitter patter tracks across it. I’ve always dreamed about the day I would
feel this much joy. And that day is
finally here!
Next post I’ll talk about hearing him call us mommommomMOM
and dad’n and how awesome our family has been!

Part 2 to our new love story
So, as the kids finished up eating, our first guests
arrived, who were so ready to meet our new addition. When Heidi and Aunt Patty came in, he did
just as Grace instructed and said “Hi, Pat Pat” while grinning from ear to
ear. *All small kids call her Pat
Pat : )
We got up from the table and went to his room to show off his
stuff (and admire the assembling job Heidi and I did on the toddler bed!) haha! Aunt Patty and Heidi came with all
kinds of goodies for our little man. They
began to pull them out of the bags and he was so excited - especially about his
spiderman pj’s and swim trunks! He gave
out hugs and was one little happy camper.
Next to arrive was Aunt Amy and Miles.
Amy cried as soon as she walked in the door, tears of joy. He took right to her, while he and Miles have
some warming up to do. I think the age
range (only 9 months apart) *might* have a little to do with that! : )
Since Miles was a little jealous and didn’t really want
anything to do with X, Uncle Bill took him outside to see the rabbits. We all followed behind to the swing sets and
the playhouse. Grace and X ran in and
out of the playhouse, up and down the slide, and back and forth on the
swing. She packed him around everywhere,
and he loved every minute of it! My Dad,
Uncle Raymond, Uncle Jerome, and Heidi made their way to the backyard and
watched the kids go this way and that.
It was still unreal to me that everyone was here because of this little
miracle running around! Chace came home
from baseball practice and said, “He looks like you, Aunt Lisa”. I think it’s the brown hair….that’s about
it! Haha
It started to get chilly so we headed back in where the kids
jumped on bean bags, played with toys, and visited. Ashlei and Jenny were checking in with Aunt
Patty to see how everything was going, and thanking the Lord for answered
prayers! My friend called to see how
everything was going and was so relieved when I told her how awesome it
was. It was only going to get better.
After our visitors left, we picked up and got ready for bath
time. Bath time with my own little
one. How exciting! He was so excited to play with his new bath
tub boat from Heidi and Aunt Patty that he didn’t seem to mind the water
pouring over his head. (I don’t show
much mercy during bath time…..water in the eyes only lasts a few seconds!) I kid, I kid…..kind of! We finished bath time, lotioned up, and got
pj’s on. We went to the living room to
rock in the recliner, and he just snuggled right in dozed off. It was the most amazing feeling. Every time I tried to lay him in his bed
though, he would wake up and want to be held again….not that I minded that at
all! : )
After about 20 minutes of solid sleeping in my arms, I was
able to lay him in his bed and walk away.
Even though our room is directly across from his, I still had the baby
monitor on. I was a little restless
because I was afraid I would miss something because of the massive snores
coming from right next to me in bed. A
few kicks to the shins solved that problem and our room was silent, except the
faint hum of the monitor. After about 4
hours he let out a faint cry and I was there in a jiffy to scoop him up. He wrapped that little bitty arm around my
neck and nuzzled his head to me and I felt like I could just melt into a puddle
right there. I will never forget how it
felt to know that I was the person this little man was depending on to keep him
safe and give him lovies. I closed my
eyes and swayed back and forth until I heard those little baby snores coming
from his mouth.
He only stirred one more time and we had the same moment again
that made me swoon. Bill woke for work,
and after he left I lay staring at the ceiling.
Could I be dreaming? I sure hoped
not. I was assured it was indeed real by
the stirring on the monitor. I laid and
listened, thinking he was just turning over in bed. I heard a little shuffle and look over to the
doorway and see a little piece of my heart standing there. I hopped out of bed to scoop him up, and In a
sleepy little baby voice he says, “hi” and gave me that big pudgy cheek
grin. Swoon.
Grace was awoken a little later by what she called the
greatest alarm clock ever. She begged me
to not make her go to school, but since I am so mean (not really) I made her
get ready and go. She was so early
getting ready, she had time to play, pack X around everywhere, and get some
McDonald’s for breakfast! She is
thrilled with the fact that when she needed to hand him to me to put her jacket
on this morning he didn’t want to come to me.
He only wanted his “shishy”.
We got Grace dropped off and headed to the grocery store to
pick up some food for a little boy who will eat just about anything…..this was
new to me because Chace and Miles are very picky. What does a 2.5 year old like to eat? We just got a little bit of everything and I’m
hoping for the best! Haha We headed home and put the groceries away and
waited for baby X’s caseworker, who would be there any minute.
In part 3, you will hear what she had to say and how X and I
spent the rest of the day! Stay tuned!
****I am referring to him as X – his name is Xavier. Shoot me down here, but I dislike that name very
much. Like really, really dislike. We call him Zay, which is what his caseworker
calls him. We will change his first name
when we are able to legally and have decided to name him Lucas. His middle name will be Xavier, so he still
has that part with him. We’ve called him
Lucas a few times and he responds to it immediately. I’m sure he doesn’t know really, but I don’t think
it would be that hard for him to adapt.
Has anyone ever had an experience like this….or know someone who
has? Please do not blast me here….only
kind suggestions please! ; )
I know you've been waiting for it!!! Good news - Part 1
My, my….how things can change in the blink of an eye! If you’ve followed our story at all, you
know that we’ve been waiting to adopt for about 18 months, and started the
whole process 2 years ago. It has been the hardest road I’ve traveled. Hope, disappointment, and fear, are only a
few of the words I can think of right now to describe it.
Well, today, things
finally changed. Sit back and relax,
cause this is gonna take a minute!
Let me start by telling you about my friend. She was one of my best friends from high
school and is still a very good friend to this day. I loved her parents and applaud them for
raising such a wonderful daughter. She
is happily married and has 3 wonderful kids of her own.
She spoke with me a while back about her and her husband
considering foster adoption. Since that
wasn’t the type of adoption we were doing I wasn’t extremely familiar with it,
but offered any advice I could. They
signed up with the same agency we were using and very shortly after they
started their dcfs classes, they had a call about a little boy. Since they wanted to adopt and seemed to be
the perfect home for this little boy, they said yes and were given special
approval to move him in while they were still working on their classes.
Meanwhile, over at my place, I was having some health
issues. Nothing serious, but stuff that
would guarantee that I would never have my own biological children – unless I
pull a Mary, and I don’t see that happening!
I was scheduled for surgery on April 16.
A few days before, our caseworker called us about a potential
birthparent. We agreed to have our
profile shown and spoke with her about signing up for dcfs classes. She emailed me the information on the classes
and told me we’d set up our 6 month monitoring visit after surgery.
A couple of days after my surgery, she called to tell me
that out of 9 profiles shown, we were one of 3 couples in the final pick. They were to look at them over the weekend
and choose one. We would just wait to
hear from her.
Back at my friend’s house, things weren’t going as
planned. She was very upset because the
dynamics with her kids and the little boy weren’t great. The little boy needed lots of attention
(which she completely understood) but her own kids needed attention also. She was devastated as she made the call to
her caseworker to ask them to move the little boy. As I can imagine, it was the hardest decision
she had to make. She called me so upset
that she had “failed” the little boy. I
tried to assure her that she had to do what she felt was right in her heart for
her family and that somewhere out there was his forever home, and she was just
helping him find it. I also commented
that it was too bad that we weren’t dcfs approved because she had told me how
sweet, smart, and loveable this little boy was. The agency now had 2 weeks to find him a new
home.
Shortly after I got off the phone with my friend, our
caseworker called. We were not chosen by
the birth parents. I am very used to
rejection by now, and though it sucked, I was not surprised. Then she asked me a question that started a
snowball effect. Would we ever consider
adopting older than an infant…..say 2 years old? Uh, say what?! I asked if this little boy was just asked to
be moved today and though she couldn’t really give me any information, she said
that there were a couple of cases that had recently came up….and I knew. I told her we would consider it and started
internally freaking out. I called my
friend…..could it be that they were talking about her little boy? She began to feel a little better thinking
that her unfortunate turn of events may turn out to be very fortunate for me. We were just a flutter with assumptions…..and
then my phone rang again.
Indeed, they were talking about her little foster boy. If we were at all interested, we would need
to get a waiver from the director because our classes hadn’t been completed for
dcfs. Apparently those waivers aren’t as
easy to come by as one would think. We
needed to wait and see what the director would say. A simple yes or no answer. Yes…….or no.
We were told that if they said yes, this could happen very quickly. If no, it was still not far fetched…..but we
would have a few obstacles.
Quickly, huh? I had a
spare room that needed cleaned out. I
mean, it was clean….it was just overcrowded with junk. I feverously got to work organizing stuff,
just in case.
We finally got our answer.
They said no. However, like I
said, it was not so far fetched. This
was now the 2nd day that we had been discussing this. There was a way….but my friend would have to
make a decision. Would she be willing to
remain his legal guardian until we completed our training (which isn’t set to
start until the beginning of May and would last one month)? She didn’t even hesitate when she told them
that she would – and only because it was me.
She wouldn’t do it for anyone else.
What a friend. I tell you, she is
amazing.
The sun comes up today.
Bill heads to work (before the sun came up), his head so full of “what
if’s” I could scream. He is much more
logical and cautious than I am. I have a
love/hate relationship with that. : ) My friend calls me, she has heard from her
caseworker. If we’re all ready, we can
begin transition visits as soon as I talk with the baby’s caseworker. She calls me just as I’ve lathered up in the shower! Obviously, I had the phone right outside the
shower and dry my ear off very quickly.
She is pleased with everything and agrees to the visits if we’re ok with
it. Ha, if we’re ok with it! I have a room to finish. My baby cousin (who is not so much a baby
anymore!) comes over to help me put together a toddler bed. With only 14 screws, it can’t be that bad
right? I’ll spare the details, but we
only had to take it back apart one time.
Ahem. Thanks again, Heidi….couldn’t have done it
without you! : )
Since my friend has agreed to remain his guardian, he still
has to live with her. But, he can do
visits with us for up to 3 days at a time – until our classes are finished,
then we will be his guardians. My friend
is so excited – not to leave him, but to give me my chance to start a
relationship with the little boy who will be our son. Her family brings him over this evening with
his meager belongings. She handed him to
me as we were carrying stuff in and he came right to me. We talked and went to his room. He started playing and acted as if nothing
was going on! He brought me his plate
from a bag and said “eat, eat”. We
headed to the kitchen where he stood in front of the fridge and said “eat”. He and Grace (who was so excited she could
hardly stand it) sat at the table to dine on some re-heated Pizza Hut (I know,
such a special first meal – ha!). I
worried as my friend and her family slipped out the door that he would cry……he
never even noticed! He ate all of his
pizza just like a big boy as we sat at the table for the first time as a “family
of 4”.
Aaaaand that’s enough for tonight! Stay tuned to hear what an amazing night we
had after the re-heated Pizza Hut dinner!
I can’t even begin to thank everyone enough for their
thoughts and prayers. Though this wasn’t
at all how I pictured “it” would happen, it feels right – and I still can’t
believe it. Even if we had been dcfs
ready at the time this little boy needed a home, we couldn’t have taken him
because of my surgery. I look at my friend as a special holding place
for him – for us. Would we have gotten
him if anyone else had taken him? I don’t
know. Yes, there are still some risks….but we will deal with that as we
go. Maybe some things do happen for a
reason. I’ve never believed that before. Tonight, I do.

I love Pinterest!

I love pinterest and all of the awesome ideas it has given me! One day I will get around to trying all of the stuff I have pinned. Key words...one day! It's hard to imagine how I used to organize the things that I would never get around to before pinterest! haha Today though, I decided to try out a tutorial for a drawsting dress for the American Girl dolls that I found on this website right here. Check this out and watch the video, it's great! I tweaked it a little bit and made these 2 dresses you see here for about 5 bucks....and I still have some fabric left over!
If you want to try this pattern out, I would suggest making the drawstrings longer, or using ribbon for the straps. I made the pattern ones, and they were too short. I improvised and ended up using ribbon, but I'm afraid it's going to fray over time...but I was tired of messing with it! Also, the pieces you have to sew to go over the armpit(?) [bottom left picture] were a bitch to sew. I cussed more over those things than anything. If I sewed more often, it may have been easier....but I did finally get it.
The dress on the doll on the right is made exactly by the pattern (except the drawstrings being ribbon). The one on the left is the same, except I added some length to it and added a ruffle. It was a little full looking, so I took a black ponytail holder and put it around the waist to bring it in a little.
I think Grace will be pretty excited about Gracelyn and Alaina's new dresses. I can't wait for her to try to make her own!
Check out my seamstress help in the picture! He is an awesome husband!
{I know that it is fall and I need to change my layout - I am working on it!}
Hope you've had a fun weekend!

Not me Monday
It was ::not me:: who went to Kroger this morning in the shirt I wore for pajamas last night! I would never leave the house in anything but freshly laundered articles of clothing!
It was ::not me:: who just last night (wearing the same shirt mentioned above) had to go take some movies back and threw a jacket on and zipped it up because I didn't want to put a bra on. I'd never, ever leave the house without a bra!!!
It was ::not me:: who spent 10 minutes swinging on Chace and Miles' swing set yesterday {by myself} while they played in the sand box. I'm much too big to be playing on children's play equipment!
It was ::not me:: who cried and left my dad's without saying anything the other day because I felt like he was yelling at me in front of a delivery guy about moving my car [though it was his normal tone of voice when he's in "work mode"]. I'm much too old to be offended by a harsh tone from my father and I'd never cry about it!
It was ::not me:: who boo hoo'd watching a movie last night about people having babies. [What to Expect When You're Expecting]. I'd know what a movie like that would do to me and I'd never torture myself by watching it! It was a pretty good movie!
It was ::not me:: who got scared when someone knocked on the door at 10:30 pm the other night while I was watching tv and chace was sleeping on the bean bag. It was also ::definitely not me:: who scooped him up and ran him to my bedroom and threw him in the bed with Bill so I could go answer the door -- only to find out it was a pizza delivery girl looking for the address 2 houses away.
It was surely ::not me:: who drug out alllll of my fall/halloween decorations Saturday and left them sitting in the living room by the front door. I would never drag out a mess and not finish it right away!
So, what about you? Care to share some of your "not me" moments? I'd love to hear that I'm not the only unperfect person out there! :) Have a wonderful Monday!

Little bit of a Debbie Downer.
My Uncle Jim got some good news and some not so good news. The good news is that his tumor has shrunk from 5.5 to 2.5. Bad news is that it is spreading. Still praying for a miracle. People say they happen every day....
Several of my friends have commented on facebook on a page for a little 13 year old boy with cancer. I don't know them at all, but read the page and I broke down. He is ready to pass and there was an interview with his mother talking about how they've told him it's ok to go if God tells him to. I.cannot.imagine.the.pain. I have been weeping for 15 minutes for this little boy and his family. Hoping he finds his miracle also....
We got an email from our case worker that it is time for our monitoring visit. It is no big deal, but I don't want to do it. Of course we will because we have to...but I still don't want to; sometimes I just want to give up. I won't give up, but it's what I feel like doing sometimes. I feel like we're never going to get a baby and that I'm just wasting time worrying, wondering, and crying. What in the heck have I done to deserve this wait? Aghhhhh.
I have been in a pretty foul mood lately. I get mad at Bill for the stupidest things. Sometimes he pronounces a word wrong and it gets on my nerves. If he doesn't have the right expression when I tell him something then I think he's mad....then I get mad....then he gets mad that I'm mad even when he wasn't mad. See how stupid it is?! Ugh.
So, how's that for being a Debbie Downer?! I'll think of a better post for tomorrow....but for now, I'm going to wallow in my own self pity and go to bed. Tomorrow is a new day!

Weekend visitor....
So, if you read my last post, you know that my Uncle Jim is very sick. He and his family came up for a quick trip this weekend. I was so nervous that he would look so sick already and that the visit would be filled with awkward moments, like "I know you're sick but I don't know what to say" moments. It was anything but that....and for that I am so thankful.
Being sick sure didn't affect Uncle Jim's un-punctuality. He was as late as ever. Kidding, kidding! Sort of. :) I thought he was coming to the parade with us and he showed up a few hours later. He had a good excuse, though...he was napping. :) This is something I have always made fun of him for (and not always behind his back...haha).
Being sick also did not affect his Grandpa-Kopec-like story telling. A short story will take forever to tell.
And ever.
And ever.
And then a little bit longer.
But, I have never been happier to hang onto every word he said!
I promise I am not being mean by these little digs at him! :) I love you Uncle Jim!
When hefinally arrived, we showed him and Aunt Ruth the shop (she had never been there) and headed to dad's to cook on the grill. We visited, ate, laughed, had a campfire, joked, and had fun. I took lots of pictures but I always do that anyway. ;) It was just like normal. Except he is sick.
To me, there was a little aura(?) that hung in the air. We all knew the filthy, unwelcomed guest was staking residence inside him, and cursed it with unspoken words. Since things were so "normal" I didn't want to talk about the cancer as not to tarnish the visit. But, it was still there. I asked how he was feeling a few times and he assured he was ok, a little worn out, but doing ok. I talked with Aunt Ruth a little bit about how she felt, but I didn't want to pry. I can't even imagine.
I did not cry there. I am known as a bit of a cry baby 'round these parts - in every sense of the word, but I kept it together. Since he looks great and acts the same old Uncle Jim, it was easier. When I do cry about it, it's when I think of the future. I don't want him to go through this. I don't want Aunt Ruth and Shawn to go through this. I want him to be here when I finally get a baby. What a miracle that would be. Miracles happen every day....let's hope and pray for his! And there were the waterworks. Excuse me.
Ok, let's end this with some pictures! Pictures make everything better. I am loving this pic of me and Uncle Jim. Then there's Chace and him sitting around the fire talking about monsters, a happy, happy family, Amy and a silly Uncle Jim face, and my dad and his siblings.

Oh, snap! Looks like I've ended this just in time to catch some Real Housewives of NJ! Toodles!

Ten for Today
1. I don't ask for prayers very often. BUT, our family could sure use some right now. My Uncle Jim has been diagnosed with terminal anaplastic thyroid carcinoma. Cancer. The word makes me sick. I've never had to deal with someone I know closely having cancer. This particular cancer has a very low survival rate and progresses rapidly. There is no treatment. He will do radiation treatments to keep it at bay, but they will not cure it. He is coming to visit this weekend (they live a few hours away) and I hope I can keep it together. My mind is racing trying to think of things I want to say. If you would, please say a prayer for him, my Aunt Ruth, and cousin Shawn. They have a very tough road ahead.
2. I feel awkward posting anything else on this after #1, but I know Uncle Jim reads my blog sometimes and would enjoy reading other tid bits of my amazing wit!
3. This is my last week of work (for the Doctor anyway). I am thankful to have had such wonderful bosses over the last few years. I can honestly say that no one has doted on me as much as they have. I believe that I am a good worker, and they have never had a problem telling me that. Makes you feel really good that people appreciate what you do. I will miss that and hope that my new boss will appreciate the same. Ahem, Pam/Dad. haha
4. Grace turned 11 last week and we had an awesome week celebrating her birthday. Yes, a whole week! :) We had a family party one week before since it's Bill's birthday that week too, then a slumber party a few days later, and wrapped it up celebrating just the three of us on her actual birthday. She is a very fortunate little girl and I am so happy that she knows that! We will be delivering stuff to the local children's shelter that she collected in lieu of birthday gifts from her friends (though they were sweet friends and still brought some things for Grace herself!). Here's the birthday girl::
5. Grace was telling me about a sub teacher at her school the other day and she said she had botox several times. I asked her how she knew that - she told me because she looks like one of those ladies on those shows I always watch. I'm assuming she's talking about The Real Housewives and not The Office. You think?! hahaha
6. If you're broke, don't go to the bar all the time. That costs a lot of money.
7. I thought someone broke in our house the other night while we were laying in bed. I saw a light that I could have sworn was a flash light in the kitchen and I heard "someone" stumbling around. I shook Bill and woke him up and he assured me it was the dogs. He quickly fell back to sleep while I laid with my eyes bugged open staring out the bedroom door for an eternity. Once I was convinced no one was there, I started to drift off - and then I heard a scraping noise. My eyes flew open and I almost screamed seeing something coming in the bedroom door. It was a BALLOON from Grace's birthday!! Good thing I used the bathroom right before bed, I think we could have had a real mess on our hands. I've GOT to quit watching scary movies!
8. Bill's grandma passed away last week after a massive stroke. She had a great life and it was obvious she touched her grandkids' lives. Since there are only 6 grandkids and 3 of them live farther away, it was nice for them to see each other and remember memories of her. Bill's Aunt let Grace go through her great grandma's jewelry and pick some things out. She showed me a hair comb that she picked out and informed me that she wants to wear it on her wedding day. Planning ahead, that's my girl!
9. I am loving my kindle fire I got for my birthday! I can't wait for Christmas so I can ask for gift cards so I can buy more books! I have a problem buying books myself when I could just go to the library! Woe is me. :)
10. Ending this because I am tired. Found a new blog post title I like today, "If you really know me"....think I may try that one in the future.....stay tuned!

I'm starting to get a complex....
We showed our profile again....and we weren't chosen, AGAIN. What the heck is the matter with us?!
I know, I know....there are others waiting too. Only one family can be chosen. Our time will come. We will know why when it happens. I know. But I want to know why - now. Wahhh.
I got the news this morning just as I was starting to take some pictures for a sweet little newborn. Perfect timing.
We did not tell anyone about showing our profile this time. I was so excited, I had it all planned out in my head. It was going to be a situation like Catelynn and Tyler on Teen Mom, minus Tyler. We would find out that she chose us and I would scream on the phone and hang up crying happy tears. I would nonchalantly call our family and invite them over for my famous chicken and dumplins. That was sure to get everyone here. We would talk and eat - all the while keeping a secret that we were about to reveal. I would tell everyone we had a surprise for dessert and do something a little fun to tell them. What, I don't know, I hadn't thought that far ahead yet. ;)
But, one phone call this morning changed that plan. I took the newborn pictures and then I did what any well disciplined woman on a diet would do.
I went to Wendy's.
I did it big. TWO junior bacon cheeseburgers. Man, were they good. They didn't help my heart though. It still hurts.
I know another will come along and this just might happen again....or it might not. We'll see. I'm strong and I can handle. But in the mean time, I'm starting to get a complex!

Just some sentences
People who update their facebook status with "fml" really make me crazy. Do you really have it so bad that you need to say f my life. No milk for your cereal, so f your life. Really?
Tomorrow is baby Miles' one year birthday party. I love that little man so much I can't stand it.
Ernie visited Grace tonight. You can read a little about Ernie in this blog post here. I have always loved Grace's reactions to Ernie, but I am loving them much more now. I know these days of believing are numbered. And, no, I don't think she's faking it so it will keep going on. This girl is a believer! I hope she always is.
I've been staying up too late again lately. The Olympics are getting me! I'm not a fan of watching sports, but there's something about the Olympics that make it awesome! My favorites are girls gymnastics and diving. What are yours?
Miles pooped in my living room floor today. I let him go diaper free for aboooooout one minute and while he was standing by the couch, he dumped me a present. I screamed, he got scared, stepped in the second one he just left and slipped and fell. Poop was everywhere. Chace was screaming and laughing. Miles was screaming and crying. I was just screaming. What a fiasco that was. After I got the mess cleaned up (bath for baby, cleaner for the floor) Chace told me it still smelled like turds in the living room. So, we packed up and went to McDonald's to play in the play land (after everyone was cleaned off, of course).
I don't know where Chace is coming up with some of the things he says lately, but I LOVE it. Today he said, "Oh my god, you are being so sweet to me I just can't stand it". Later, while I was trying to figure out how to bathe a poop covered baby, Chace pointed out that there were a lot of turds in the bath tub. We had to drain and start over. I think he likes to say "turd".
School is almost here! I'm ready for this year, hoping it's better than last. Grace is always excited for school to start, we'll check in in a couple of months and see how excited she is. I was always ready for school. Mostly to get away from home when I lived with my mother, then to see my friends when I was a little older. I also loved new school supplies. Something about an unmarked notebook and fresh pens. I think my favorite things were new folders. I loved organizing my classes. What was your favorite school supply?!
Need to go get some rest for the big birthday party tomorrow! Good night!

Men and doctors - and the weirdo in the attic
What is it with men (and some women, I guess) not wanting to go to the doctor? Seems like the only ones who visit the doctor regularly are......I better not go there....yet. Let me back up and start this over.
Bill NEVER wants to go to the doctor. He could have a major fever, snotting his nose off, coughing up a storm...and he refuses to go. Now, I don't think you need to go for every snot and sniffle either. But, there comes a point when your "country boy can survive" mentality is not enough.
Like tonight when he felt like he broke his knee cap.
Want to know how that happened?! Ok!
So, after supper I was sitting on the couch and kept hearing something. I told Bill to mute the tv and when he did we heard a scratching in the ceiling. My very first thought (though very brief) was that I thought I saw the cover to the attic slightly off the other day and what if someone was living in the attic and came out at night?! Remember a movie like that years ago?? Then that thought went away. That doesn't happen, right?
Bill tells me it has to be a mouse. Eek. I have to know, and tell him he needs to look up in the attic to check. He doesn't seem concerned all, so I pester him for what he needs to begin the investigation. Blah, blah, blah. I head out to the garage and drag in the small ladder, spot light, and maglite flash light. The mag lite ends up having dead batteries and the step ladder is too short. Drats. I drag it back outside and lug the big ladder inside.
Bill apparently finds this show humorous and decides to join in. I bang through the back door to find him standing in the hallway with the spot light in hand and a stainless steel bowl on his head, ready for action!!! It was pretty funny. He begins to set up the ladder while I go into the living room to mute the tv again. As I'm heading back, I heard the biggest crash. I run to find the ladder on it's side and Bill on the ground. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry! I asked if he was ok and all he could muster was, "I don't know". Fast forward a few seconds and he's getting up and there's no blood, so I'm a little relieved.
The next thing I see is the metal bowl laying in the corner. "Did you wear the bowl on your head up into the attic???!!" When he begins to laugh through the pain, I can tell that he did. Oh boy.
We'll see what tomorrow brings, --lots of sore muscles I'm sure. Sore knee, ankle, and wrist for Bill and sore stomach muscles for me from laughing so hard at the sight of my honey defending me from the non-existent weirdo in the attic while wearing a stainless steel bowl on his head!
So, long story long - Bill has a swollen wrist, ankle, and knee. He said his knee hurts the worse and refused to go to the hospital. He can barely walk around and says he doesn't need a dr to give him pills and a knee replacement. You know, cause that's exactly what they would do. Ahem.
**And for your added peace of mind, there was no man in the attic - and nothing else he could see for that matter. :)
